Trailer
CINEOS helps you find a film by the experience you want from it. Describe it in your own words. Films that rhyme with your description come back, each with the reason why. CINEOS never grades a film. It places one, and it tells you how it got there.
Feature
Every film on CINEOS is read on 20 readings. 12 of them, called Plot DNA, describe what a film is built out of: how it handles time, how it ends, how large its world is. 8, called Emotion Topology, describe what it does to you: how heavy it feels, how long it stays, how alone it leaves you. Together the readings make a film's signature. Two films rhyme when their signatures rise and fall in the same places, so two films from different countries and decades can rhyme. You do not need any of this to begin. Describe what you want, and read why each film answers.
Making of
The 275 films are a fixed set, from 1928 to 2020, from 45 countries. 5 of them were read first, and every other film is read against those and checked. Nothing is worked out while you read a film page: every reading, and the sentence behind it, is stored ahead of time. CINEOS does not grade a film, or say whether you will like one. A reading is an interpretation, and it comes with its reasons so that you can disagree with it. The Method sets out the checking and the limits in full.
